Mountainside: It's about an idea. A place. A movement.

The idea, is about connecting – to family, nature, others and self. It’s about creativity without limits, inspiration without boundaries, ideation uncaptured by language, thoughts formed through nature and nature embraced as catalyst for direct experience.

The place, a ski-through enclave perched on the side of Northstar, Tahoe’s premier on-mountain resort. Summer or winter, access to 3,000 acres of skiable, hikable and bikeable terrain. Over 40 miles of open and wild trails welcome you to explore; discover; go off path; lose track of time; exhale.

The Movement, creating the ultimate luxury mountain base camp where innovation and adventure dwell. An enclave of 300 residences and plethora of amenities of the mountain - on the mountain. Huts for camping, yoga, meditation, mountain play structures for children of all ages, a yoga retreat hidden in outcroppings, a first class base camp with a pool, lounges and workout facilities. And under design, the Mountainside Zen Cube. A space specifically designed to inspire and facilitate your ideas. A place where you and your team can leverage collective thought, collaborate and create the change you seek. A place where you and your family can unplug and reconnect, learn through gatherings, workshops, presentations and events. Redefine human interaction.

Katie Martin

Hello all! My name is Katie, and I began my training career in Chicago in 2012 working at a FitBody Boot Camp. Shortly after, I became one of the top fitness instructors at that facility and completed my ACE personal training certification. Next, I underwent a two-week, 200-hour Power Yoga certification. Between yoga and personal training, I have found a great balance in my career and enjoy bringing that balance to those I train.

Marissa

I have been practicing yoga for over 8 years and teaching for 6. My inspiration and passion for wanting to teach began when I was in India studying Ayurveda. My teaching style empowers people to be more confident and self-aware. I encourage them to look beyond the surface and to journey deeper within themselves. In my classes, we work on healing the physical, mental, and spiritual body. I like to connect breath with playful, challenging, yet healing, alignment based poses. My teachings come from an intuitive space and are always tailored to who is present. Please join me on the journey of self-discovery and creating harmony through the beautiful practice of yoga.

Marybeth Donahoe

Hi! My name is Marybeth Donahoe. I was drawn to yoga when I was 17 and trying to be a health conscious individual. I loved the challenge, the connection, and the freedom I felt from yoga. In 2013, I went to Kenya on a "seva safari" a selfless service project, where I received my first yoga teacher certificate. I have been captivated by this practice for over a decade; continually growing as a student and teacher. After a knee injury from skiing, yoga has expanded further from just a physical practice to a healing one for my emotions, body, and mind. In my teaching, I like to keep things simple and fun. I make the practice tangible by connecting it to everyday experiences. I create a space for authenticity, strength, and freedom. I try to act as a catalyst to ignite inspiration in my students physically, mentally, and emotionally. I hope to empower students to realize their desires and potential in poses and in their life. Everyone is invited with open arms to my class, no matter your skill level in the practice. Can't wait to see you there!

Zaria Forman Maldives

Artist in Residence

Mountainside Institute is dedicated to fostering opportunities for owners to collaborate and create; the Institute embraces the wonder of the outdoors as a catalyst for direct cultural experiences that connect nature, family, friends and self. Mountainside’s first seasonal artist residency program launched in January 2017 where noted artists will on property to work and take part in the community.

Luca Marziale

This summer Mountainside is hosting London-based photographer Luca Marziale, a native of Switzerland, whose mind-bending landscapes redefine nature photography. Luca, who has photographed some of the most remote places on Earth, says when you journey to regions that range from sub-zero to boiling hot, “apart from testing yourself – which is great – you also know you’re witnessing places that most people can’t access. This is a big draw for me. The absence of ‘man’ is a big factor in the environments and landscapes I choose to photograph”.

Zaria Forman

The celebrated American artist brought her signature drawings of remote landscapes to Mountainside in January 2017. Her drawings are notable for the size and expansiveness, not to mention their uncanny ability to capture the natural beauty of landscapes in nearly photo-realistic detail. Leaving Mountainside and transitioning back to New York City life was for difficult. She missed the incredible winter wonderland of Tahoe and people who made her residency possible. During her time, she completed her 60” x 90” pastel on paper titled “Cierva Cove, Antarctica” in preparation for her solo show that opens in Seattle this September at Winston Wächter Fine Art.

Joey Piziali Poly Fade

From February 2-18, Mountainside hosts San Francisco artist Joey Piziali, creator of The Edge Series, who uses airbrush techniques to create pulsing, glowing canvases that recall the Light and Space movement of California during the 1960s. According to Piziali, the series began as a ‘happy accident,’ testing the spray of an airbrush while working on another painting. Now, with their signature pixelization, formed when pigment hits the tooth of the canvas, the series serves as an analog commentary on digital imagery. Given the dichotomy, it’s perhaps unsurprising that Piziali’s work hangs in Twitter’s San Francisco HQ and has been embraced by tech-savvy Bay Area collectors.
